Argyle Stencil: Step-By-Step Tutorial

Step 1

Set the stencil on the quilt to line either the top points or the bottom points with a horizontal seam of the quilt top. Mark the quilt using your preferred method, pounce pad or water/air soluble marker.

Step 2

Shift the stencil to the right lining up the left edge of the design with the previously marked right edge so they overlap. If necessary the stencil can be tilted to keep the design running along the chosen seam of the quilt. Mark the design. Continue this process until the design has been marked across the full width of the quilt top.

Step 3

To start the next line down, line the previously marked bottom points of the design with the bottom of the small diamond at the top of the template. Mark the template.

Step 4

Shift the template to either side and realign the template per steps 2 and 3 and continue marking the design across the row. Continue repeating the process for a few lines. Note: If using an air soluble pen, only mark out as many lines as you can reasonably stitch in that same day, otherwise the pen is likely to disappear before you have a chance to stitch it.

Step 5

Stitch the lines according to the red pathway in the photo below.
